Let's be honest. These guys are only here for one reason: to take a big fall, demonstrating the superiority of Daniel's God. Whether the wise men are just standing around looking ridiculous, unable to magically say what kind of dream Nebuchadnezzar said, or whether the satraps (and their wives and children) are getting their bones crunched by lions, it's pretty clear that these guys are just here to have the tables turned on them, demonstrating once and for all how God is above every human scheme. You kind of need to feel sorry for them. They're like the anonymous bad guys who get shot off the tops of bridges and jet-skis in James Bond movies.
